A NEW LEYLAND ATLANTEAN CASTING
The below news release and photographs have been received from Octo Models. Albeit slightly outside the remit for the site, I feel it will be of interest to a number of visitors.

"Octo Models Limited owners of www.ryanbus.com are delighted to announce the future release of their first fully finished white metal model. A Type D CIE Bodied Leyland Atlantean

Available very early in 2007, this model will be a limited edition of only 150.

It will be modelled on D415 which is preserved by Gary Managhan in Ireland and is in its original blue and cream livery.

Uniquely for a white metal model bus, the body has been produced as a one-piece casting.

The cost will be £84.99 per model and photographs of a pre-production sample and secure order form can be found at the Ryanbus home page - www.ryanbus.com

A donation from the sale of each model will be made to the Irish National Transport Museum in Howth.

Any telephone enquiries can be directed to Alan Thompson on 07739 040699.

Alan Thompson, Director of Octo Models Limited said: The model was unveiled last Saturday at the Dublin Bus & Coach Show and was very well received. There are a few minor 'niggles' which need improvement before going into production, such as the position of the windscreen and the size of the wipers, but no major concerns were raised by the owner of the preserved bus or his colleagues.

We are delighted to be able to produce such an 'iconic' Irish bus".

Please mention British Model Buses if contacting Octo Models.

BRITBUS NEWS  RELEASE
The below news has been received this morning from Britbus and contains details of some models just released and the new casting which I reported yesterday. I hope to publish photographs of the models listed below in the near future:

BritbuS releases this week...

New models released by Britbus this week are firstly the AS1-04 – AEC short Swift, Single door, HANTS and SUSSEX bus Co.

The model features the bus in the later version of the Hants & Sussex livery and features

Bus Reg. No.EGN 683 J which was in fact purchased by the H&S bus Co. from preservationist bus enthusiasts. It was in fact built as a two door bus for London Transport and was one of a number of similar buses run by Hants & Sussex. The model is on route to OLD BOSHAM via Fishbourne on route 66.

Secondly its the attractive YORKSHIRE RIDER, Alexander bodied RH type Scania 113, This bus was part of a number of similar buses in the YR fleet and was in fact the first in the series  that is numbered 8001. It carries the reg. No G 801 JYG and is on route 55 to Cottingley via City Square.

The third model released this week is the Alexander bodied Dennis Loline III – a bus that has already been modelled by Britbus in the full traditional as well as the final liveries of the Aldershot & District Traction Company – this time however the bus is a ray of bright sunshine in its ALDER VALLEY bright yellow livery as one of the Driver Trainer buses in that NBC consolidated fleet. The model is of Reg No. 462 EOT which is currently being lovingly restored to her former glory by ADBIG. Hopefully she may be on the road soon once again gladdening the hearts of enthusiasts. This bus is the only survivor of this bus with the Alexander body as far as can be determined- certainly in the UK!

Lastly –

But……. perhaps not least—

is the news of a forthcoming model of a new BritbuS 1 /76thscale casting. This Model is of the once ubiquitous Park Royal bodied NBC standard Leyland AN68 Atlanteans, that first appeared in the attractive Lincoln Green and Yellow livery of the recently formed National Bus Company for the LONDON COUNTRY (LCBS) services. The First issue, AN2-01 features fleet number 65, Reg No JPL 165 K operating on route 321 to Uxbridge via Watford, Croxley and Rickmansworth.

The Single door version of this vehicle will also release at the same time Before Christmas it is hoped for both models. The Item No. is AN1-01 and is a model of one of a small batch of this type of bus operated by SOUTHDOWN MOTOR SERVICES. It is Fleet number 743 and Reg No. LCD 43 P and is modelled as operating on the Express service to SOUTHSEA South Parade. The bus is finished in NBC leaf green and features the later style of NBC fleet logo.

Both these Items will be made to a limited edition of 1008 pieces.

All these models are available from JOHN AYREY DIECASTS Ltd., in “BENTLEY HOUSE” at  202 Market Street, Shipley in West Yorkshire.- or from their  Christchurch Showrooms at Somerford, .Shipley Phone number 01274  594119. Ask your retailer to get your BritbuS models for you!!

PRESS RELEASE FROM CREATIVE MASTER NORTHCORD LTD
The below press release has been received this morning from CMNL:

NEW CASTING

UKBUS6002 Alexander Dennis Enviro400

Metroline

Following the great success of the launch model of the Alexander Dennis Enviro400, UKBUS6001, with “Spirit of London” decoration, Creative Master Northcord Limited is pleased to announce the release of UKBUS6002, the first dual door, short wheelbase Alexander Dennis Enviro400, the long awaited new casting of a distinctive modern double-decker for Greater London.

The first livery to be carried on the brand new model is Metroline. UKBUS6002 represents fleet number TE681 (LK55 KKP) that was new to Metroline in early 2006.

Metroline is part of the Singapore based ComfortDelgro group and operates, together with its Armchair and Thorpes subsidiaries, nearly 1200 buses in North, North West, West and Central London employing nearly 4000 staff.

TE681 is one of a batch of 28 10.1metre Dennis Tridents with the striking new Enviro400 bodywork delivered to Metroline in the winter of 2005/6. Metroline was the first London bus company to place an order for vehicles to this brand new design.

One of the main advantages of the new lower deck layout was an increase in the number of seats available. The buses are mainly used on the high profile Central London Route 24 running between Hampstead Heath and Pimlico.

The Alexander Dennis Enviro400 UKBUS6002 is a one-piece casting whose clean lines accentuate the square-mounted, gasket windows and the livery application on which all logos and lettering are clearly legible. Another main feature on the UKBUS6002 model is its dual individual tree protectors at the front. The front dome on the model is significant, with its curved windscreens on both upper and lower deck.

Creative Master Northcord is creating new design standards in the layout of the interior of both saloons. These features inside the compartments represent the really outstanding layout of the Enviro400, such as an additional seat behind the driving cab, additional ventilation equipment on the upper deck ceiling, and extensive portrayal of handrails on the upper and lower deck, etc. The headlights at the front are made of individual components to look more realistic.

The brand new Enviro400 bus models will be distributed by John Ayrey Die-Casts Limited (UK), Transit Graphics (Australia), Porte Publishing Company (Japan) and Concorde Hobby Shop (HK) respectively. The UKBUS6002 model is limited to 1800 pieces worldwide.

CORGI ANNOUNCE "FIRST SHOT" 1/50TH SCALE RT
I have just received the below from Time Tunnel Models, which has been circulated to their customers:

"There is to be a version of the 1/50 scale AEC RT in the First Shots series.

First shots are the very first few models that are produced from a brand new casting tool.  These models are unique in that they form the test run for the tool before production begins - a small quantity (typically 250 pieces) which are run off and checked by hand for flaws, before the tool is finally signed off for production.

These ultra rare first 250 of a new tooling are then tumbled (a process which removes any waste material or sprue attached to the piece) and are test assembled with unpainted plastic components to ensure that all parts of the production process work.

In the past the collector would never get to see this essential stage in the diecasting process - however, Corgi now issue these 250 models which would in the past have remained locked away - with any imperfections fully intact - in presentation silk-lined boxes, the ultimate unrepeatable limited edition!"

The model will have stock code CC26199 and an RRP of £158.00. It is due in May 2007

EFE MODELS SCHEDULED FOR RELEASE - A FURTHER CORRECTION

EFE MODELS SCHEDULED FOR RELEASE - A CORRECTION
Further to my news article of 8 November, the three EFE models shown as being scheduled for release last week will in fact be released this week (W/C 13 November 2006). This error was due to one of the major wholesalers quoting an incorrect date on an email which they distributed to clients.

MODEL SURVEY
A reminder that the closing date for receipt of your suggestions for a new modern single deck casting is this Friday 17 November. I have been asked what model is currently in the lead. At present I am not able to say this due to the very large number of emails received that I still have to add to the list (over 150). I will publish the top three after all suggestions have been collated which I hope will be sometime during week commencing 20 November.

MODEL SURVEY UPDATE
It is fair to say I have been swamped by emails over the last couple of days and am slowly adding all suggestions to my list. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to write to me. Unfortunately it is impossible for me to respond to every one, but rest assured your input is greatly appreciated.

At present there is no clear leader although a couple of suggestions are slowly beginning to pull away at the front. Vehicles suggested range from early 1900's to those only just going into service. I have been asked to clarify what a "modern" bus is; my interpretation is that it is a bus that is currently in service. I think I now have sufficient suggestions for classic buses and double deckers so please could I ask that suggestions from now on are for modern single deckers only. Hopefully this will then lead to one or two clear favourites.

Tuesday 7 November 2006

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE YOUR FAVOURITE TYPE OF BUS IN MODEL FORM?
I have been approached by one of the major manufacturers (I am unable to name them for confidentiality reasons) asking if visitors to the site could assist them in deciding on a new 1/76th scale casting. Primarily they are looking at a modern single deck bus although they would also be open to suggestions for either classic buses or modern double deck vehicles. The type of bus must be one that has not previously been released in model form by any manufacturer. To keep things as simple as possible at this time, please just reply with the type name rather than specific variations of a type. Once the ideas have been submitted the manufacturer will be able to research different variations e.g. lengths etc. prior to making their final decision.

Please email me with your suggestions and your favourite fleet. If you are aware of other fleets that the vehicle runs with please list them as well. I will collate replies and forward them to the manufacturer for consideration. If you would like to attach photographs to your suggestion these would also be most welcome. As it is likely I will receive a considerable amount of suggestions, I cannot guarantee I will acknowledge individual emails, however all suggestions will be forwarded.

CLICK HERE to email me, I look forward to receiving your suggestions. Last date for receipt will be Friday 17 November as I will forward details after that date.

RAMBLERS ASSOCIATION BRITBUS MERLINS
I have today received the below circular from Stuart Alderman regarding the second Britbus Merlin model commissioned by the Ramblers Association (he will be posting a copy of the circular tomorrow to his customers). Stuart has also advised me that the first Merlin (Red on route A1) model is being dispatched from Hong Kong imminently and he hopes to service orders for the model in approximately 10 days time.

THE NEW GREEN MERLIN FROM BRITBUS

with advertisements for The Ramblers' Association

I cannot say this is to announce a new Britbus Merlin because ever since last April's Cobham Museum open day people have known it was coming.but rather like that wine from Bordeaux each autumn that so many people make such a fuss about....il arrive !!

The new Ramblers Merlin carries advertisements for The Ramblers' Association, a fine organisation which endeavours to improve our access to Britain's countryside. It is in green London Transport livery with a yellow stripe below the windows. The words LONDON TRANSPORT are reversed out of this stripe in green. It is a single deck vehicle.

Other pertinent details are as follows:

It is Garston (GR) based MB 277, with registration VLW 277 G. The route blinds are for Route 346 to Bushey Arches via Kingswood and Watford Parade on the front and the rear box has just 346 written large filling the box.

There is an advertisement on each side and on the rear for the Ramblers' Association. The usual legal bits are there and a Pay as you Enter notice: it is of course finished to the usual high standard one has come to expect from Britbus.

The production run is 504 with individually numbered certificates. It is expected to be available by mid-December.

If you would like one or more please complete the slip below and return it to the address shown. The cost is £28 incl p&p and I can accept E40 or US$55 in cash which includes airmail postage. Cheques should be made out to Mr S Alderman and can be dated 10 December 2006 they will not be banked until the models are ready for dispatch as is the usual policy.

(A strange request. Did you receive cert number 257 with your red Ramblers Merlin? If so would you be happy to exchange the certificate. I have a regular collector who likes No 257 and would be really grateful if the person who got it would exchange it.)
