TRADE TOY FAIR REPORT
The annual trade toy fair began today in London. I am very grateful to John Booth from the Model Bus Federation for sending me the below report:

EFE have announced that their new casting will be the Bristol/ECW RELH coach, and the example on display was in United livery. This will not be released until next year.

The London Transport GS class model is due for release in March, and a production model was on display.

There is still no release date for the AEC Renown, but possibly it might appear in the summer or even at Showbus. There will be two variations. One has the three piece lower deck rear window, and the other a one piece unit. Also the drivers cab doors are different, one being hinged, the other sliding.

There will be a new series released to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of VE Day, and this features models in wartime liveries, mainly London Transport. They will come in special packaging, and are in a new number series 99200 etc., At this time six models have been announced, although this could increase to eight.

The models are:

99200 AEC Regal 10T10 London Transport, Route 413A in green livery with off-white window surrounds with blackout markings.

99201 AEC Regal 10T10 in grey livery as used by an ambulance by the US Army, again with blackout markings.

99202 Daimler Utility, London Transport, in brown and cream livery on Route 137. With blackout markings and anti splinter screen on windows.

99203 Guy Arab II Utility, London Transport, in grey livery on Route 23. Blackout markings as per previous model.

99204 AEC STL, London Transport, in red and off white livery, with silver roof, with full blackout markings on Route 19 (which incidentally is likely to be the last RM route in London!)

99205 Guy Arab Utility II bus, Southdown, in green and grey livery on Route 12 to Newhaven.

Other new releases on show included a Bristol FLF Lodekka in the current Stagecoach livery, as per the preserved vehicle, and a MCW Fleetline in Belfast Corporation livery. There was also a Leyland Olympian Type B in London United livery (single door!) The new range of trucks was also on display. The previously announced Bristol VR in Eastern National livery would appear to be in the later light green and yellow livery, not the earlier dark green and yellow livery.

Moving on to the Corgi Classics stand there were no buses on display, so we can pass on that one. However the Road show previewing the second half years releases will be out in April.

Turning now to the Sunstar Routemasters. All the new versions were on display,(albeit hand painted examples) and the new Green Line RMC is stunning.

The Green Line model, RMC 1453, has the correct twin headlamps at the front, and opening platform doors and grab handles, as well as the emergency exit door on the back. The interior has been modified to include the above window luggage racks, fully detailed, and the correct colour moquette on the seats. In addition it has the correct Leyland engine, as opposed to the AEC version in the first releases. It is due for release in April.

New up will come the version in the all over advert livery for Vernons RM 686, which looks very colourful, and is due for release in July.

Following that in October will come another silver version SRM 25, again with a Leyland engine, this time in the original 1977 Queens Silver Jubilee livery. This even has the correct coloured carpet which was laid in these vehicles.

Finally, we have the Shillibeer model, which again looks very colourful, and will be released next year.

PRESS RELEASE FROM CORGI OOC
The following press release has been received from Corgi:

The Original Omnibus Company range from leading die-cast collectables company Corgi has earned a reputation for quality since its first outing in 1994.  The collection of 1:76 scale limited edition precision die-cast models offers collectors a choice of modern and classic public transport vehicles from across the UK.

Corgi has joined forces with one of the biggest names in transport livery design, Ray Stenning of Best Impressions, to add a new dimension to this year's Original Omnibus Company collection.

Ray Stenning established Best Impressions over twenty years ago to provide design and marketing services to the transport industry.  As one of the UK's top livery designers he has carried out complete rebranding projects for some of the biggest operators in the business including Trent Barton and Stagecoach.

Ray Stenning comments: "We strive to create fresh and dynamic liveries for our clients by looking at every part of the vehicles presentation.  We are delighted that Corgi has chosen to include so many of our designs in this year's range."

Corgi has developed a strong relationship with Ray over the years since first launching the OOC range and have so far produced almost twenty models featuring Stenning liveries.

Adrienne Fuller, product manager at Corgi first made contact with Ray whilst researching suitable buses for Corgi to recreate in miniature.

Adrienne explains: "Each OOC model is researched extensively before production.  Corgi collectors have come to expect high levels of detail and authenticity from our models so I speak to bus operators regularly to get hold of photography and livery details to ensure that the finished product is as close to the original as possible.

"Many of the operators I spoke to in the early days of OOC gave me Ray's name as 'the man behind the liveries'.  Since then I have worked with Ray on many occasions over the years and he continues to supply us with comprehensive drawings and detailed artwork for all of his liveries that are featured on Corgi models."

This years OOC collection features four of Ray's liveries, the first of which is a Plaxton Excalibur featured in the livery of Oxford Bus Company's Oxford Espress service.  Best Impressions carried out a complete rebrand of the service during winter 2003-4 including interior furnishing and exterior livery. Corgi's scale version of the Oxford Espress is available from March priced £19.99.

The second release is a Plaxton Premiere featured in the red and white livery of Wilts & Dorset X33 branded coach service.  The company became part of the Go-Ahead Group in August 2003 and the introduction of these high quality coaches is part of an ongoing investment programme to improve the service.  Corgi's model is available from May priced £19.99.

Available from June is a double-decker Wright Eclipse Gemini priced £21.99.  Featuring the livery of Twickenham based operator, London United who operate the Gemini on the 148 route between Shepherds Bush and Camberwell.  One of the capital city's leading operators London United services carry almost 2 million passengers per week.

Finally the last release is a Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Dart SLF, which is one of three operated by Arriva Kent & Sussex and carries the green and cream 'Transweald' livery.  Corgi's model is available from June priced £19.99.

All OOC models come with and a Limited Edition certificate, photo-etched wipers, fine detail mirrors, highly specific levels of decoration and where appropriate models also feature poseable wheels, photo etched engine covers, sliding doors, opening engine covers and glazed destinations.

Avid collectors can receive all the latest news with Collector Club membership, which includes ten newsletters per year, offers and discounts.  For more information, call the consumer hotline on 0845 603 9070 or visit www.corgi.co.uk.

Below are some extracts from the catalogue which gives some details of the new models:

2904: RMC 1453 - 453 CLT: The Original Green Line Routemaster Coach

Following the successful trial of the prototype CRL4 (Coach Routemaster Leyland) which had entered service on 9th October 1957, it was announced in the summer of 1961 that 68 double-decker Routemaster coaches were to be purchased for Green Line Coaches, the long distance division of London Transport which operated limited stop services to central London from towns such as Guildford, Harlow, Hatfield, Hertford, Romford and Windsor. Apart from the distinctive Lincoln Green livery, the main differences from the standard Routemaster were the double headlights, enclosed platform with electrically operated double jack-knife doors, and the narrower, combined route number and via blind box. To accommodate more luggage on the longer distances, luggage racks were fitted above the seats, the platform luggage compartment was enlarged and the seating was re-configured to seat 57 passengers. RMC1453, the first of the series, was delivered on 28th June 1962 to Hertford garage and was featured in the official photographs used in the advertising of the new service. Before entering service, its unladen weight was marked as 7 Tons 12 Cwt 2 Qrs.

2905: RM 686 - WLT 686: Vernon’s Pools

The traditional red double-decker bus is still one of the most recognisable symbols of London, but during the 1970’s, many colourful decorations were also to be seen on the streets of the capital. Although advertising had long been a feature of London buses, in August 1969 the first bus was completely decorated with an advertisement. Recognising the potential increased revenue, London Transport then embarked on a programme which was to see 28 different designs of “all-over” advertisements by April 1976. A few more followed in the 1980’s, but the novelty and impact had declined and they were phased out. RM686 ran in the colourful Vernon’s Pools livery between August 1972 and September 1974, during which time, the prize money was increased several times. We have modelled it on route 18 out of Stonebridge garage in 1974.

2906: SRM 25 - 850 DYE: Queen’s Silver Jubilee – Woolworth

To mark the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in 1977, London Transport painted 25 Routemasters, one for each year of her reign, in a highly appropriate Silver Jubilee livery. The silver livery included a specially designed logo which combined a crown device with the silhouette of the dome of St. Paul’s cathedral. The exclusive advertising rights for each vehicle, which was re-numbered SRM1 to SRM25, cost £10,000. Each bus was fitted with a special red 100% wool carpet which featured the Silver Jubilee logo, the Woolmark logo and 1952, 1977 and the initials E R placed around the London Transport roundel, and this carpet has been faithfully reproduced in our model of SRM25. Before re-numbering, SRM25 was RM1850, one of the second batch of 175 Leyland-engined Routemasters delivered to London Transport between January and July 1964. Consequently, a replica of the Leyland 0.600 9.8 litre power unit is to be found beneath the bonnet of our model, We have reproduced SRM25 as it operated out of New Cross garage with its patriotic Woolworth advertising on route 1 to Oxford Circus, the heart of London’s West End shopping area.

2907: RM 2191 - CUV 191C: Shillibeer – Watney’s

On 4th July 1829, George Shillibeer started to run a single horse-drawn carriage between Paddington Green and Bank on a three-hourly basis with a flat fare of one shilling. The vehicle was called an Omnibus (Latin: for all), a name which later became abbreviated to bus, and is considered to be the origin of what was to become London Transport. As a result of the popularity and additional advertising revenue of individually decorated buses, twelve Routemasters were painted in dark green and yellow, similar to the original livery used by George Shillibeer, as part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of bus operations in London in 1979. Of the 12 Shillibeer Routemasters, we have chosen RM 2191 because of its very appropriate advertising, Watney’s London Bitter, and have modelled it as it first ran on route 9 out of Riverside garage in Hammersmith from 3rd March to 1st June, before being transferred to route 77A/77 out of Merton and then route 137 out of Gillingham Street, Victoria.

TWO PRESS RELEASES FROM CREATIVE MASTER NORTHCORD LTD

Brookes Bus

UKBUS2012 TransBus President-bodied Trident

Brookes Bus is a significant icon in Oxford, a famous university city in the UK. Now, it is also an icon in the model bus world. Creative Master Northcord Limited (CMNL) is releasing UKBUS2012, Brookes Bus replica with TransBus President bodywork. It will again be the focus of attention from bus model collectors as well as from bus enthusiasts.

UKBUS2012 (18052, KX53 VNC) is one of 6 delivered to Stagecoach in Oxfordshire in the autumn of 2003. The bus is used on the hugely successful Brookes Bus network of services operated in partnership between Stagecoach and Oxford Brookes University.

Brookes Bus run principally to meet the requirements of students travelling between Campuses, Halls of Residence and other destinations within Oxford. However, Brookes Bus services are open to everybody and the model shows the latest version of the branding emphasising this, launched in September 2004.

The Plaxton / TransBus President is one of the most popular double-deck bodies in the UK, particularly when fitted to the Dennis Trident chassis. Stagecoach acquired this batch of President-bodied Tridents in 2003. They are 10.5m long and have the low-height version of the President body with an overall height of 4.2m.

The replica features excellent detailing, inside and out, including an opening engine door and engine detail. This is a one-piece casting whose clean lines accentuate the gasket windows and livery application on which all logos and lettering are clearly legible.

Additionally, UKBUS2012 brings some significant achievements to mirror options Stagecoach sought for its exclusive requirements : e.g. there is a horizontal handrail on the upper deck windscreen, a new anti-branch feature, an additional partition on the driving cab, new seating arrangement in the lower saloon, LEDs at the rear, new rear bumper, etc. Both ceilings are completely painted, representing the real colour on the buses.

The brand new single door Plaxton President double-deck bus models will be distributed by John Ayrey Die-Casts Limited (UK), Porte Publishing Company (Japan) and Concorde Hobby Shop (HK) respectively. The UKBUS2012 model is limited to 2100 pieces worldwide.

Dennis / Plaxton Mini Pointer Dart

UKBUS3011 Blackburn Transport

Further to the previous successful release of the Mini Pointer Dart replicas with other operators’ colours, CMN is releasing another MPD model. This is UKBUS3011 carrying Blackburn Transport livery, a bus operator working in Lancashire, UK.

The Blackburn Transport MPD replica carries the fleet number 652 and registration number V652 HEC. It represents one of a batch of Plaxton Pointer-bodied Dennis Dart midibuses built in Scarborough in 1999. Built to Euro 2 specification, the buses have electronically controlled destination blinds and LED route number displays.

This is a one-piece casting whose clean lines accentuate the gasket windows and livery application on which all logos and lettering are clearly legible. The model also features excellent detailing, inside and out, including an opening engine door, showing the detailed environmentally friendly Euro 3 engine. All grab rails feature inside the replica and in their correct positions. The construction method of this replica permits realistic-looking front and rear lights – in particular the front headlamp / indicator assembly whose headlamp is transparent and indicator is translucent.

One of the main features of UKBUS 3011 is the attractive colour scheme that was designed by bus livery designers “Wizzworks.com”.

The brand new UKBUS3011 Blackburn Transport bus models will be distributed by John Ayrey Die-Casts Limited (UK), Porte Publishing Company (Japan) and Concorde Hobby Shop (HK) respectively.

UKBUS0006

Creative Master Northcord Limited (CMNL) is proud to announce the imminent release of its sixth specially commissioned model. In this instance the model has been commissioned by City Sightseeing and appears in the livery of City Sightseeing York. The model is numbered UKBUS0006 in a special series for commissioned models.

The eye-catching livery is applied with care to ensure that its multi-faceted icons and motifs are represented like in real life. The smooth sides of the Plaxton President base model assist in the application of the complex livery and ensure that no detail is lost.

This replica is a one-piece casting whose construction ensures that there are no ugly metal poles to hold it together.

The City Sightseeing York bus models will be distributed by John Ayrey Die-Casts Limited (UK), Porte Publishing Company (Japan) and Concorde Hobby Shop (HK) respectively. These models will also be available through certain City Sightseeing outlets.
