CREATIVE MASTER NORTHCORD CONSULTATION EXERCISE

CREATIVE MASTER NORTHCORD LIMITED

CMNL CONSULTATION EXERCISE

During the last 6 months CMNL has become increasingly very aware of the financial pressures on collectors’ wallets.

Because the cost of raw materials has fluctuated, but has mainly increased, and because the cost of employing the many people who are involved in manufacturing our collectibles has also increased greatly, CMNL is looking at ways of entering a period of cost saving.

CMNL would like to know the views of those who retail or distribute our products and the views of those who purchase our products. Below, we would like to outline our possible options.

Whilst it is unlikely that these options would result in a price reduction, we would hope that they would slow down the rate at which prices may have to rise to meet the rising production costs.

Contacting us :

CMNL has set up a separate e-mail address for you, our valued retailers, distributors and customers, to contact us with your views on how we might be able to achieve cost-saving through simplified packaging, yet without reducing detail and accuracy of the actual models that we produce.

If you would like to make your views known to us, please write directly to the following e-mail address, or you can write by hand to our postal address.

CMNL WILL NOT USE YOUR E-MAIL OR HOUSE ADDRESS FOR ANY PURPOSE WHATSOEVER, AND YOUR ANONIMITY IS ASSURED THROUGHOUT.

Contact details :

Contact us by e-mail :  cmnl_consultation @ yahoo.com

Contact us by letter :             CMNL Consultation,

                                           C/O Creative Master Northcord Limited

                                                                        Flat D, 3/F,

Yeung Yiu Chung (No 8) Ind. Bldg.,

                                                                        20 Wang Hoi Road,

                                                                        Kowloon Bay,

                                                                        Hong Kong

Below, we set out ways in which we might be able to save on production costs and this mainly involves using less detailed packaging and individually numbered certificates. We would like to know if our valued retailers and collectors would prefer us to continue to provide the current style, or if you would prefer us to offer a more basic packaging.

Limited Edition Certificates :

CMNL can make a saving in preparation, printing and production costs by discontinuing the practice of having an individually numbered Limited Edition Certificate attached to the underside of the model plinth.

Our option may be to print detail of the size of the production run onto the plinth, but without indicating a number by the “counter” system that we use at present – for example 0001 out of 1200 models produced, 0002 out of 1200 models produced etc.

Please write with your opinion on what you prefer.

Discrete packaging :

CMNL knows that many collectors immediately throw away the packaging material and limited edition certificates because they do not have enough space for storing model boxes and packaging, yet, for others, the CMNL discrete model packaging is a very important part of the CMNL brand because it gives each model a distinctive and individual face.

We also know that this is a practice that many retailers like because they can identify each individual model easily. However, the preparation cost in making our special brand of discrete packaging is expensive through the employment of the design company that undertakes this work. In addition, the printing costs of the multi-colour packaging that can add a significant amount to the production cost of the models.

Our options are :

  1. Continue to produce our discrete packaging for all models;

  2. Produce a box that has an identifying “theme” similar to the Japan Bus range – with a photograph of the subject of the model and a short description or history of the bus;

  3. Produce a box that has an identifying “theme” similar to the Japan Bus range but without having an individual photograph or description of the history of the bus  that is modelled;

  4. Produce one standard box for all products irrespective of marketplace and place a small sticker on the ends of the cardboard outer with the product code and name.

Please write with your opinion on what you prefer.

Important note :

These proposals would only apply to models that are initiated by CMNL and would not apply to Commissioned Models – these would have numbered Limited Edition certificates and discrete packaging as is standard.

Please make your thoughts available to us by e-mail or by letter and this consultation period will end on 30th April 2009.

CREATIVE MASTER NORTHCORD LIMITED PRESS RELEASE
The below press release has been received from CMNL:

New Casting

Alexander Dennis Limited Enviro200Dart 10.7m 2-door

UKBUS8011 Selkent

Creative Master Northcord Limited is proud to make the official announcement of UKBUS8011, the launch model of the 10.7m long, dual-door version of the Alexander Dennis Limited Enviro200Dart and long-awaited, brand new casting of this distinctive modern single-decker in the United Kingdom in this form.

The first livery to be carried on the brand new model is Selkent. The model represents fleet number 36010 (LX58 BZY), with standard Transport for London “London Red” livery, operated by Selkent, part of the East London Bus Group.

The bus is based at Selkent’s Bromley Garage and is one of a batch of five 2-door 10.7m long Enviro200Darts which entered service in September 2008 on route 246 between Bromley North and Westerham (extended summer Sundays to Chartwell).

The East London Bus Group which trades as Selkent and East London operates approximately 1300 buses from 10 garages throughout South East and East London.

The Alexander Dennis Enviro200Dart UKBUS8011 is a one-piece casting whose clean lines accentuate the gasket windows and the livery application on which all logos and lettering are clearly legible.

Creative Master Northcord is creating new design standards in the layout of the interior in the replica. These features inside the compartment represent the really outstanding layout of the Enviro200Dart, such as the additional seats on the wheel arch on the offside, and extensive portrayal of handrails in the compartment. The dual door versions have additional partitions by the rear door.

CMNL hopes that collectors will make a good comparison with UKBUS8001, the launch model of the 8.9m long bus that began the story of the Enviro200Dart models by CMNL, and also in Selkent livery.

The brand new UKBUS8011 ADL Enviro200Dart models will be distributed by John Ayrey Die-Casts Limited (UK & I), Transit Graphics (Australia), Porte Publishing Company (Japan), cnmycar.com (P. R. China) and Concorde Hobby Shop (HK) respectively. The UKBUS8011 model is limited to 1100 pieces worldwide.

CREATIVE MASTER NORTHCORD LIMITED PRESS RELEASE
The below press release has been received from CMNL:

New Casting

Alexander Dennis Limited Enviro500 lhd

NABUS0001 : GO Transit

Creative Master Northcord Limited is proud to make the official announcement of the launch model of the Alexander Dennis Limited Enviro500 NABUSrange - the long-awaited, brand new casting of this distinctive, modern, left-hand drive double-decker that is designed specifically for the North American Market.

The launch model is cataloged as “NABUS0001” and the first livery to be carried on the brand new model is GO Transit, based in Toronto, Canada. The bus that is represented in this model is GO Transit fleet number 8008 that carries license plate BN3-342.

The NABUS1000 range has been designed using the 40’ Enviro500 as its prototype example and is represented in true HO or 1 : 87 scale that will find favor with modelers of modern image model railroads in HO scale throughout North America and worldwide, as well as for collectors who will appreciate the fine design of this distinctive bus.

Because the GO Transit buses are based on the 42’ version of the Enviro500 lhd, the model is classified as “NABUS0001”, indicating slight variance between the true length of the GO Transit buses and their 1 : 87 scale representation.

The Alexander Dennis Enviro500 double-decker bus was launched into revenue service for GO Transit in April 2008. The buses operate on Highway 403 and 407, on a service that operates between Oakville GO Station and York University with plans to extend the route to service the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in Oshawa.

Each bus has two wheelchair locations and a seating capacity of up to 78 people. Alexander Dennis Limited is currently supplying a further batch of similar buses to GO Transit from its main factory in Falkirk, Scotland.

GO Transit is an interregional public transit system, linking Toronto with the surrounding regions of the Greater Toronto Area. GO carries more than 51 million passengers a year in an extensive network of train and bus services that is one of North America’s premier transportation systems.

The Alexander Dennis Enviro500 lhd NABUS0001 is a one-piece casting whose clean lines accentuate the bonded windows and the livery application on which all logos and lettering are clearly legible. The replica of this fine bus carries interior detail such as the handpoles in their yellow color, driver rear-view exterior mirrors and windshield wipers. Because of these small parts, CMNL recommends that the collectible models are suitable for adults only (14+ years).

The brand new NABUSEnviro500 lhd models will be distributed by John Ayrey Die-Casts Limited (UK & I), Transit Graphics (Australia), Porte Publishing Company (Japan), cnmycar.com (P. R. China) and Concorde Hobby Shop (HK) respectively. The NABUS0001 model is limited to 1000 pieces worldwide.

CREATIVE MASTER NORTHCORD PRESS RELEASE
The below press release has been received from CMNL:

UKVAN1005 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Panel Van

New Packaging

Creative Master Northcord Limited is proud to make the official announcement of its UKVAN1005, the third replica on its most popular Mercedes-Benz Sprinter panel van model tooling.

The UKVAN1005 panel van model comes in new packaging.

Rather than being presented in a collectors’ box, the UKVAN1005 is contained within a specially shaped plastic blister tray that has a clear plastic cover to hold the model securely in place. The blister is attached to a well presented and decorated card backing. The UKVAN1005 model can be accessed by peeling the top plastic cover away from the card backing sheet and removing the tray.

For the retailer, this new form of expendable packaging has been designed so it can be displayed hung from a wall-mounted display, or it can also be placed in a free-standing position.

The UKVAN1005 is painted in Dealer Stock White. This version will allow collectors to avail themselves of the opportunity to use this CMNL Sprinter model as the basis for super-detailing by adding decals of their choosing or by adding additional livery detail or paintwork in order to enhance their OO-scale modern image model railway layout or 1:76 scale general transport diorama where it could undertake the role of a delivery van or support van for a bus or truck operator.

UKVAN1005 carries the “personalised” registration mark SN58 VAN which, at the time of the model’s release, was still unissued by DVLA.

Key features of the UKVAN1000 series, exemplified on UKVAN1005, include interior detail showing the driver’s instrument binnacle, steering wheel, single driver’s seat, twin passenger seat and also chassis detail that includes replicated drive-train and exhaust system as well as fuel tank and spare wheel. The windscreen wipers are individually made pieces and therefore the models are not suitable for children under 14 years of age.

The brand new UKVAN1005 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter panel van model will be distributed by John Ayrey Die-Casts Limited (UK & I), Transit Graphics (Australia), Porte Publishing Company (Japan), cnmycar.com (P. R. China) and Concorde Hobby Shop (HK) respectively. The UKVAN1005 model is not certificated.

CREATIVE MASTER NORTHCORD LIMITED NEWS RELEASE
The below News release has been received from CMNL:

IEBUS0002 Volvo B7TL / ALX400 Open Top Bus Dublin Bus

New Casting

Creative Master Northcord Limited is proud to make the official announcement of its second IEBUS model. This is IEBUS0002, a replica of an open-top ALX400-bodied Volvo B7TL in the fleet of Dublin Bus.

The IEBUS0002 model replicates the specially converted open-top bus AV24 (registered 00-D-40024) that was reworked by Dublin Bus itself.

Three buses from the Year 2000 delivery of ALX400 Volvo B7TLs from the main Dublin Bus fleet were converted in the Dublin Bus workshops during 2007. These were AV22  - AV24 and they formed the first tranche of  the conversion of the Dublin Bus Tour from step-entrance Olympian to accessible, low-floor operation. The buses are painted in a new Dublin Bus Tours livery.

Dublin Bus offers visitors to Ireland’s capital city a “hop on – hop off” city sightseeing tour using a fleet of 23 open top double-deckers. The tour operates daily at 10-minute intervals and can be joined at any of 23 stops, each located near one of Dublin’s most popular visitor attractions.

The IEBUS0002 model, although based on the original UKBUS 1000 ALX400-bodied Dennis Trident, follows the special and unique design of the Dublin Bus open-top conversion and has the lines of the Volvo access panels and grilles etched into the casting.

The ALX400 open-top replica features excellent detailing inside and out, including an opening rear engine cover.  This is a one-piece casting whose clean lines the livery application on which all logos and lettering are clearly legible.

The interior plastic blister has been redesigned to ensure the secure positioning of the model on the plinth by following the shape of the unique Dublin Bus open-top conversion.

The brand new Dublin Bus ALX400 Open Top IEBUS0002 bus models will be distributed by John Ayrey Die-Casts Limited (UK & I), Transit Graphics (Australia), Porte Publishing Company (Japan), cnmycar.com (P. R. China) and Concorde Hobby Shop (HK) respectively. The IEBUS0002 model is limited to 1200 pieces worldwide.

COBHAM BUS MUSEUM COMMISSIONED MODEL - ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Further to my news article of 14th February, I have received the following information this evening from Cobham Bus Museum:

"This year's limited-edition model for the Spring Gathering on 5 April will be RM 546, the first Routemaster to venture overseas to promote British interests abroad. Delivered to Hanwell garage in December 1960, it was driven to Basle, Switzerland in February 1961 for a 2-week stint in service in the Swiss capital. The bus subsequently went on further trips to Holland, France and Sweden before re-entering service at Hanwell in December 1962.

Our model depicts RM 546 in service from Hanwell garage on trolleybus-replacement route 207, destination Hayes End. The model will carry the 'GB' plate on the rear which, traditionally, all London buses which went abroad retained after their return to London service. It will have an authentic appearance with the 'Cobham 2009' branding on the box and the certificate only, not on the bus itself.

The model will be available exclusively from the Cobham Shop at Wisley Airfield on 5 April (not available at Redhill Road), priced at £27.00 to Members (please show your membership card) and £30.00 to non-Members. If there are any models left over after the day, they will be made available in the Cobham Shop at the May 31st event or by mail order. To enquire about availability after 5 April, you can call the Museum on Wednesday afternoons on 01932 868665 and ask for the Shop Manager. P&p for one model is £3.50 and £2.50 for each additional model.

Members who volunteer at the Spring Gathering will have the usual privilege of reserving the model in advance and collecting at their convenience on the day. The necessary order form will be sent to volunteers before the event. If you haven't volunteered yet, there is still just time - see the form enclosed with the last Magazine.

It is hoped to have 3 further limited-edition models this year, one at each of the Event Days in May, August and October but negotiations are still in progress with the manufacturer. Full details will be published in future Magazines and on the web-site".
